Prescription Drug Abuse is a Worldwide Epidemic

The opioid market is approximately $11 billion and growing at about 5%. Opioids are the third largest class of therapeutics by prescriptions, above beta blockers, and are the most commonly abused drugs. Oxycontin sales alone are over $3 billion annually. Since 2003 there have been more overdose deaths involving opioids than heroin and cocaine combined.

Based on the Egalet proprietary technology, the company is looking to capitalize on the need for new safe and effective opioids. Egalet is developing a pipeline of tamper-resistant opioids that are nearing pivotal testing. The company has met with the FDA and has a clear path to approval with its lead compounds.
