IVIVC and Egalet^®: An illustration of the problem for sophisticated oral drug delivery systems

This series of investigations has attempted to quantify the interaction of physicochemical and physiological factors and has yielded data which has helped in the optimization of the Egalet^® system. The Egalet^® device was shown to deliver and release the incorporated dose to the proximal colon5. The rate of release seen in vivo and in vitro are similar for the first 3-4 hours and thereafter the in vivo release slows down relative to the in vitro measurements. Although the focus of the studies was the Egalet^® technology, the results are applicable to other oral drug CR delivery systems.
