Agreement with ratiopharm GmbH

Egalet a/s and German ratiopharm GmbH continue and elaborate the development and option agreement regarding an improved controlled-release formulation of an alpha/beta blocker.

Successful feasibility studies with a new formulation based on the patented Egalet^®  technology have made Ratiopharm GmbH, exercising its option to obtain exclusive license rights for the German market as well an option for other European countries for the new formulation. The present new product is the first outcome of the strategic co-operation between ratiopharm GmbH, a leading German pharmaceutical company, and Egalet a/s, and both parts are extremely satisfied with this early establishment of a promising effective once-daily formulation of the alpha/beta blocker. Even though the drug is only administered once daily, the user receives the active substance constantly during the day.

The new alfa/beta blocker is developed by Egalet a/s, and utilises the Egalet^® controlled release technology for zero order release named 2K in which the active ingredient is incorporated into a polymeric matrix. Upon oral administration, the matrix erodes at a constant and predetermined rate and enables the delivery of the alfha/beta blocker for a prolonged period to the intestines resulting in an optimal and continuing absorption.
